CAIRO – 30 September 2017: Marco Asensio has explained his sensations after his renewal became official with Real Madrid until 2023 .
"It's a very important day for me. Extending the contract with the biggest club in the world is a real pride. It was a great year last year, where I grew a lot, and this season has started very well. My goal is the same: maximum number of titles with Madrid."
Real Madrid announced on Thursday that the club has reached an agreement with the Spanish midfielder Marco Asensio to extend his contract with the club until 2023.
The midfielder is aware of the great moment he lives - and the expectations he
generates - but prefers not to give much importance to the praise, even if they come from Cristiano Ronaldo, who said he was going to the Golden Ball.
"To receive such praise from Cristiano is good, but I do not think about winning the Golden Ball. I'm very young and everything will go step by step," he explained.
Hence the question, "Do you feel entitled?", to which he replied, "I feel important. I am in a great moment and whenever they give me minutes, I will try to take advantage of them to have even more minutes."
Asensio, who in his day could have signed for Barca, also referred to his idol as a child and the player who has impressed him the most. "My idol was Zidane, and now I have him as a coach. I'm very surprised by how Cristiano works; he always wants more, and that ambition he has for wanting more, the truth is that it's surprising."
On his favorite goal so far, he highlighted the one he achieved in the Champions final. "I would stay with the goal of the Champions League final against Juventus. It is a dream goal, to play and to score was a dream."
Asensio won 2017 La Liga title, 2016 and 2017 UEFA Super Cup, 2017 Spanish Super Cup, and 2017 UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid.
